The affected foods include 3-oz. packages of Aqua Nova Sliced Nova Lox, 1-lb. packages of Aqua Nova Sliced Nova Lox, packages of sliced Aqua Nova Premium Oregon Nova Lox, North Coast Traditional Nova Lox, 3-lb. packages of North Coast Smoked Salmon Trim, packages of unsliced Aqua Nova Premium Oregon Nova Lox, and 8-oz. packages of Tony’s Smoked Salmon Lox. All of the affected products have batch number 22821 printed on their back labels and are packaged in vacuum-sealed plastic. At the time the recall was announced, there had been no reports of illness associated with the recalled products, but they still present a potentially serious health risk to customers. Listeria is responsible for approximately 1,600 deaths each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Eating Listeria-contaminated food can cause flu-like symptoms, including digestive issues and fever, and may lead to miscarriage, premature birth, and stillbirth in pregnant people, as well as potentially fatal infections in newborns. Listeria infections, which typically present with symptoms within one to four weeks of consuming contaminated food, are more likely to cause serious illness in pregnant people, immunocompromised individuals, and older adults.
